Rider

An optional add-on that modifies or extends your base insurance policy.

What it actually means

A rider lets you customize a policy beyond its standard terms — adding coverage, accelerating benefits, or covering a specific extra risk — usually for an additional cost. Common examples include waiver-of-premium riders and accidental death riders on life policies.

Example: A waiver-of-premium rider keeps your life insurance active without payment if you become disabled and can't work.
