Dwelling Coverage

The part of a homeowners policy that covers the physical structure of your home.

What it actually means

Dwelling coverage pays to repair or rebuild the structure of your house itself — walls, roof, built-in fixtures — after a covered loss like fire or wind. It's usually the largest coverage line on a homeowners policy and the number your other limits (like personal property) are often calculated from.

Example: If your home would cost $400,000 to rebuild, your dwelling coverage limit should be at or above that figure.
