Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Protects you if you're hit by a driver with no insurance or not enough insurance.

What it actually means

This covers your medical bills and sometimes vehicle damage when the at-fault driver either has no insurance or carries limits too low to cover your losses. A meaningful share of U.S. drivers carry no insurance at all, which is why many states require or strongly recommend this coverage.

Example: If an uninsured driver causes $40,000 in medical bills, this coverage steps in where the at-fault driver's (nonexistent) policy would have.
